2018 is a year dedicated to pushing myself further then I have pushed myself before. After doing a lot more then I thought I would in 2017 I decided to step my game up. The year of endurance! Here are the events I am most looking forward to and to be honest, I am most anxious about in 2018!
Brighton Marathon
Yeah, I’ve come a long way from the days of saying “hell no, I would never do a marathon!”. I guess things change. I have never done a marathon or even run close to its distance. The furthest I have run was the Spartan Beast in Windsor 2016 which was broken up by obstacles and still only 16 miles (I say only, that was still a 4 hour slog!). My goal of 4:15 is pretty tight compared to where I feel I am now, so all of the running sessions I am doing will contribute to smashing that time! What makes this even more scary is that I’m coming out of an injury during my key training time leading up to April 15th so I know that I need to be steady and not push too hard too soon.
Europe Toughest Mudder
This will be my first overnight event and a real test of endurance! 5 mile laps of a course with added Tough Mudder Obstacles chucked in. What more could you want. This will be an extremely new experience for me as I will not only be fighting sleep deprivation, but I’ll be fighting major cold, fatigue and probably just about everything most people deem quite stupid. That being said I can not wait to smash the course. What do they know hey? With a minimum of 25 Miles as my goal, after all of the marathon training I’ll be ready! When was the last time you did something for the first time?
Spartan Ultra Beast
What do you get when you add a Spartan Race and near marathon distance together? The Spartan Ultabeast. I took part in the Beast in Scotland last year and I found it tough! So to anyone that was just starting lap 2 when I started, I instantly took my hat off to them. I’ll be in the same situation this year. Scotland hosts brutle terrain, hills and one hell of a challenge! Am I ready? Probably not. Will I be ready when it’s game time? Hell yeah!
Spartan Hurricane Heat 4hr
A event with a very different flavour. More like SAS training and a team ethos to get through every challenge thrown your way. Carry a massive tire up a hill or traverse a flowing river with a telephone mast above your head as a group; why not! Can’t wait to have my first taste of this kind of challenge for the sheer fact I’m a little bit mental.
What are the big events you are looking forward to in 2018? Is there anything you are trying for the first time? Are you planning on doing any of the events I mentioned above? Let me know in the comments below and that’s for reading.
