Happy new year!!!!
Now that all the festivities are out of the way (we have finally stopped overeating and drinking way past our limits) we can really start to look at the year ahead and start setting goals to make 2019 even bigger and even better! With bigger and better comes goals and a new focus on what we all want to achieve by the end of the year. If you haven’t already seen how I fared with last years goals click here. Here are a list of some of my initial ideas for 2019. As with any longterm plan, I am sure that a few changes may happen along the way, but until that happens, these are the goals I intend to complete!
24 hour race (Worlds Toughest Mudder or Spartan Ultra)
After a big year focused on endurance events such as Europe’s Toughest Mudder and the Spartan Hurricane Heat 12 Hour, I feel that the only natural step is too take on a 24 hour event. The two that stand out to me at the moment are Worlds Toughest Mudder and the Spartan Ultra World Championships. Both 24 hour events and both pretty far from home. Biggest challenge (apart from the events themselves obviously) is the logistics of getting to wherever they are being held this year. Regardless, this is something I endeavour to accomplish this years so shouts out to chasing after goals and events made to break us!
Quest Adventure Series (Cycle, Kayak & Trail Running goal)
Something really exciting in my line up and goals for 2019 is my first multi-discipline event! Quest Wales will include 17km of trail running, 24km of cycling and 1km of kayaking. I hardly ever ride bikes and I have never Kayaked in my life…but who’s keeping score eh? Often the best way to force yourself to learn is to put yourself in an uncomfortable position and entering an event like this will definitely push me to finally get on a bike and get in some swimming lessons (I can swim, just very poorly, for now). By looking at the videos from previous years, this event truly looks amazing so feel free to let me know if you are getting involved!
OCR World Championships
I was gutted that I couldn’t attend this event last year especially as it was so close to home! I won’t have that feeling this year! I plan to take part in the 15km event at least, but if I can gather a team (which I’m pretty sure I can find some like-minded nutters) I will enter the team race also. As for the 3km Sprint, I may as well do that too right? Wouldn’t be the first time I completed three races in the space of one weekend.
Spartan TRIFECTA Weekend: Goals for Greece
Going to the home of Sparta to complete an entire TRIFECTA weekend sounds amazing. Again missed the opportunity to do it in 2018 and especially after seeing my entire endurance Spartan family go out there and smash it, there is no way in hell I am missing it this year.
AGOGE
I need to do a lot more research on this event in particular and I am doing that now! This is the ultimate Spartan Endurance Event and is definitely the next on my list in terms of challenging myself physically and mentally. I will have more information on this soon!
Other Must-Do Events
As a fan *cough* addict *cough* of Spartan Race, I really want to do a Stadium event. The closest one to me would be France at the Moment so that would make an awesome weekend trip! Along with that is Toughest Oslo, which I have heard brilliant things about and the final ascent up a massive ski slope looks pretty hardcore! Another event that I have missed since I tried it for the first time in 2016 are Nuclear Races! Getting the Muddalion (completing all three race types in one year) has been a goal of mine for ages, but timing permitted, I could never manage all three. If I am unable to do all event types I will at least try to get over to a few. Its also not a surprise that I will be doing multiple Spartan Races (3x TRIFECTA this year) and as many Tough Mudder events as I can fit in!
I tend to start my year with a few running events to get me back to a good base that I somewhat lose over the off-season. I am finally getting the opportunity to run the Cancer Research UK London Winter Run! Its only the biggest 10km run in the UK and I have wanted to take part for the past few years. I will also be doing the London Landmarks Half Marathon as well.
Building My Base
Along with running all over the country (and starting my international campaign), I am putting a much bigger focus on further goals in my fitness. I have taken a big focus on Boxing recently which I have always wanted to do. I have dabbled with it a few times before but never knuckled down into getting really good. No dreams of becoming a professional fighter, but the implications on my fitness have been great. Also seeing as I have already signed up to a multi-discipline event, its time to start cycling and swimming like I said I would last year. Finally making small steps towards the idea of a Triathlon!
I want to make 2019 the best year I can. I have some big goals and a lot of things I want to achieve. I am working on putting together a race calendar so that you guy & girls can check out what events I will be taking part in and get involved. Thanks for reading.
What are some of your 2019 goals? What events are you taking part in? Are you doing any of the same events as myself? Are there any events you recommend I do? let me know in the comments below!
