On Friday 2nd December, I was invited to my first Adidas Runners event over in central London. It was early and pretty cold outside as you would expect on a winter morning, so I was looking forward to getting my running shoes on and joining a bunch of like minded people for a good old fashioned run.
As this was my first Adidas Runners London event I didn’t know what to expect. Everyone meets up in a cool coffee shop where runners meet and greet. Those that have done it a fair few times are very welcoming to those who haven’t. A real sense of community is the instant realisation.
They let you know that there is a trainer trail van around the corner (which also doubles up as a bag drop) so you can try the latest adidas running shoe for yourself. I decided to go with the Adidas Ultra Boost. After having them on for 5 minutes I already wanted to make a purchase!
They round everyone up and then they swing a great surprise on you. Running with us was Olympic Triathletes Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee. This was already a highlight and the running hadn’t even started yet!
We then started what would turn out to be about an 8km run in intervals. We would run around the park high-fiving our running partners as we past them then increasing our speed. The great thing that this was at your own pace. There was never an impression that you were to slow or taking to much time; You were in control which is a major strong point. Even though the Brownlee brothers were clearly in a league of their own (and fast as lightning) the group never got dismantled and everyone remained together.
After what was an amazing morning run there was the opportunity to meet and greet the guests which was incredible. Refreshments and treats were also made available to all runners after the event to top it off.
Adidas Runners London hold these events regularly and its literally a matter of joining the Facebook group and applying via the website to the individual events. The Friday morning and Monday evening classes are regular. The spaces are limited in each event so you will want to be quick to sign up. They also have varying types of classes across the week to get involved in. Great for anyone who loves running already and anyone who is looking to get into running!
